inDue : Project Management & Productivity Tool

* This project is still in progress

problem

Being productive is correlated to having the skillsets needed to get your tasks done. I personally struggled with productivity because I was unaware of certain productivity methods I could use to complete tasks and the tools available to me didn’t fit my personal needs as a student & freelancer. InDue is my solution to help users increase productivity by providing an experience that will help them manage tasks and develop productivity skills to upkeep their management skills.

Understanding the Problem

It’s expected of users to understand their tasks and then create a roadmap to completing these task. Prioritizing, time management and scheduling are all required to do this but the level of difficulty to do so varies amongst users. Current project management tools on the market are great for those who have strong skills in managing their work but those who struggle in this area don’t find these tools as helpful because they lack the skills needed to be successful. It was important for me to identify why users are facing productivity issues, what their currents tools and processes are and what they’re looking for in an experiences to help them achieve their goals.

HMW statement:

How might we help users increase productivity and develop better habits for when they’re creating, managing and completing tasks?

What success will look like for the users:

  1. New productivity methods learned and implemented

  2. Higher completion rates on tasks

  3. Increased momentum when working on task

Research

  • User research on 6 people through surveys

  • 2 user interviews

  • Competitors analysis on project management tools

Goals for Research:

  • Pinpoint the steps users take to create, manage and complete tasks

  • Identify how my competitors (i.e Asana, Monday.com) help users plan and complete their tasks

  • Observe users current productivity habits and identify areas where they need help improving

  • Identify any outside factors that impact the user and effectiveness of productivity tools

Insights

From the surveys I was able to identify the top pain points users were having when they’re trying to work through a task

  1. Time management

  2. Juggling multiple obligations

  3. Procrastination

Majority of the users start out a task by creating a plan and determining how long it will take to complete the plan. Somewhere in the process, things begin to get tricky when outside interruptions come into play, realizing that they’re plan isn’t as efficient or losing momentum completely.

Users use a variety of project management tools to help them like Google Calendar, Trello, the iOs reminder app, Asana or a paper planner. Most user used more than one tool to keep track of their task.

In the written out responses, users mentioned cellphones and social media as one of the main distractors from getting a task done. From a poll more than half of the users surveys stated that phones are a distractor.
